Karl Albert Ludwig Aschoff (1866-1942): “Aschoff, who held the chair of pathological anatomy at Freiburg, was one of the most productive of the group of German pathologists who flourished in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He made important studies on appendicitis, gallstones and jaundice, and thrombosis, and is particularly remembered for introducing the term reticulo-endothelial system.” (Heirs 2257)
