Burkitt, On the New Testament,(not after 1792)

Burkitt, On the New Testament,(not after 1792)

Folio in modern half brown leather with marbled paper over boards. Original spine relaid. Raised bands. Black title label on spine. New end papers, and ffep. Lacking title page. First four leaves with considerable loss re-laid on new paper (includes first page of commentary on Matthew). Commentary extends through Revelation 21:27, followed by new rfep. Extant content is bright with mild foxing. Binding tight. In all appears to be lacking three leaves (including title). No date, but possible range is 1734 to 1792, as this work went through many editions from the first to the last. Exterior is very good. Extant contents also very good, with well executed professional repairs to first four leaves.

William Burkitt (1650-1703) was vicar of Dedham, Essex, England. Charles Spurgeon praised and recommended Burkitt's commentary.

Ffep, blank, (6), 874, rfep.
