Thick quarto volume in original red cloth with black and gold on spine. Scattered scuffs and scratches. Heavy text block pulls spine inward. Page edges spattered or foxed. Previous owner’s name on ffep (E. Loeb). Scattered check marks in index (chapters read by Loeb?). Some underlining. Scattered faint stains, rather pronounced on page 463, but otherwise mostly sparse. Illustrated with black & white and with color illustrations and photographs. Binding tight. Joints/hinges solid.

Still the standard textbook on the subject and, as of 2025, in its 22nd edition. First edition, first printings are scarce on the market. The subsequent edition would read “Reprinted, June 1951” on the copyright page (not present on the copy we offer here). Tinsley Randolph Harrison (March 18, 1900 – August 4, 1978) edited the first five editions. He did his medical education at Johns Hopkins and his residency at Vanderbilt.
