Two volumes in original half leather bindings with marbled paper over boards. Gilt and raised bands on spines. Corners bumped. Minor wear to boards. Joints and hinges strong. Brown end papers with ex library stamps and bookplates, and early inscriptions. Multiple folding maps (each volume has one with ragged edges due to extending slightly beyond the rest of the text blocks). Some mild foxing. Bindings tight throughout. 

 

Per Ye Olde Wikipedia: John Kitto (1804 – 1854) was raised in poverty, had little formal education, and was deaf due to trauma. He worked as an assistant in a library and later as a dental assistant. He traveled to Constantinople. Kitto wrote or edited several very popular works, which remained popular for the better part of a century.
