Original brown cloth, ruled in blind, with gold text on spine. Cloth a bit wrinkled. Headband lost from spine. Foot of spine mostly lost, along with the bottom two inches of the front joint. Corners bumped and split. Hinges solid. Penciled annotations on front pastedown. Variable foxing. Binding tight. viii, 539. 
 
Signed CW Hodge on ffep. The ink and handwriting look appropriate for 1850s (which would make this Caspar Wistar Hodge Sr. (February 21, 1830 – September 27, 1891; Professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, son of Charles Hodge and brother of A. A. Hodge.). However, there is a typed slip of paper in the book giving information about Caspar Wistar Hodge Jr (Sept 22, 1870 – Feb 26, 1937). The paper does not make any claims about the provenance of this book. The signature looks too early to have been CW Hodge Jr, who was born 13 years after this was printed, whereas CW Hodge Sr would have been 27 years old when it was printed.
