Quarles, Emblems, undated (likely early 18th century)

Emblems, Divine and Moral; Together with Hieroglyphicks of the Life of Man. Written by Francis Quarles. In the Savoy: Printed by J. Nutt, and sold by E. Nutt at the Middle-Temple Gate in Fleet-street. 

 

In 20th century brown leather clamshell. Book in early (original?) full brown leather with raised bands and red title on spine. Title page ruled in black. Front joint and corners repaired at some point. 1772 inscription on ffep. Other minor early annotations on front pastedown and ffep. Small 20th century binder’s ticket on rear pastedown. Mild damp stain to first ~15 pages. Bottom corner of 23/24 and bottom edge of 27/28 each with approximately 1 inch tears and loss of text. Mild toning. An undated copy. Verso of last leaf is ads of books sold by E. Nutt (only one with a publication date: 1695). 

 

Ffep, blank, title (4) 375 (1) rfep. With numerous engravings.
