Henry Hammond was a prolific author but probably best known for the book offered here. Born in 1605 (died 1660) was appointed President of Magdalen College, Oxford in 1643. He published his Paraphrases in 1653. It went through numerous editions in English and Latin (the Latin, in our experience, being far more common on the market today). His doctrine was Arminian, and his commentary on Revelation is still studied for its preterist views.
