Medical Repository, 1798
Octavo in new grey quarter cloth with marbled paper over boards. Paper title label on spine. New end papers. Interior toned and corners extensively thumbed. Some fore-edges a bit ragged (severely so at front and rear of text block), though margins mostly still substantial (loss of upper corner of text on last couple leaves). Final leaf with tape repairs and torn at gutter with loss of text. Begins with index, ends page 142 (textually complete).
Topics range from infectious disease to materia medica, serpents to comets, and letters to institutions of medical education.
The Medical Repository was the first U.S. medical journal and ran from 1797 to 1824. It was published quarterly. The founding editors were Elihu Smith and Samuel Smith. Smith died in 1798.
