Two volumes in original full brown leather with black title and volume number labels. Raised bands. Tooled. Tail of spine of volume two starting to peel away with corresponding 1 inch crack of front hinge. Internal hinges cracked. Boards scuffed and chipped. Corners variably bumped. Marbled end papers. Some scattered toning and foxing but mostly bright. Numerous maps, charts, and plates (mostly folding). Two volumes with continuous numbering.

 

Thomas Stackhouse (1677–1752) first published his history of the Bible in 1733. It was very well received and a second edition was issued in 1742. The work remained in print through ensuing editions (with various edits and additions) well into the 19th century.
